How to install custom bleed valve to increase HP..
You'll need:
A bleed valve, from home depot (part #A42, PB9106-CP 1/4")
Wire ties
Misc. tools
- Remove your intake system from the car so that you can
clearly access the wastegate
- Remove the 4 inch tube that goes from the turbo to the
wastegate, this line contains an orifice that is sometimes used to regulate
boost.
- Remove the front passenger side wheel
- Remove the inner wheel well lining
- Look inside the wheel well, behind the door, and pop
out the rubber gasket that leads inside the car.
- Fold the 25 feet of vacuum line in half and fish the
ends through the hole on the passenger side hole near the anti-lock brake
mechanism (see picture)
- Go inside the wheel well and fish the lines through the
gasket you pulled out earlier
- Find the lines inside the car and route them to the desired
mounting location of the valve. I choose the ashtray because it makes the
valve easily accessible and safe from being bumped accidentally
- Remove the ashtray and disassemble the bottom portion.
There are four screws on the underside. This leaves you with just the top
of the ashtray
- Remove the center console piece that surrounds the shifter
- Drill two holes large enough to feed the vacuum line
through in the front and rear portion of the console, where the ashtray
fits in (see picture)
- Insert the routed vacuum line into both holes, and attach
the valve with wire ties. Drill 4 small holes around where the valve will
sit. Tie down the valve with wire ties to the bottom ashtray portion of
the center console (see picture)
- Open the valve all the way
- Replace the center console and place the ashtray cover
over the valve
- Inside the engine bay, route the hoses to the area where
you removed the 4 inch hose earlier.
- Cut the hose so you have enough length to reach the nipples
of the turbo and wastegate
- Attach one hose to the turbo, and the other to the wastegate.
It doesn't matter which one goes where (see picture). Secure these hoses
with clamps or wire ties.
- Replace the intake system, wheel well liner, and wheel.
- Make sure the valve is all the way open, and take the
car for a test drive. Floor the car in 3rd gear, you should be seeing about
10 pounds of boost or less on both turbos. This will depend on the size
of the vacuum line and valve that your are using. If you see more boost
that you want as your "base boost" then you need to get larger
vacuum line and a larger valve to allow more air flow.
- Make a couple full throttle runs in 4th gear and start
closing the valve slowly after the turbo switchover. Keep closing the valve
until you have the amount of boost that is desired. It is important to
make the run in 4th gear. You may have slightly lower boost in the lower
gears. If you plan on running your car in 5th gear full throttle, on the
2nd turbo, be careful. The boost under that high load may increase slightly
above what you initially set the boost at in 4th gear. Since 4th gear redlines
at 140mph, I never run the car at full boost in 5th gear.
